This year we are using a brand new and exciting new resource called Jigsaw to support our children’s Personal Social and Health Education [PHSE].
Jigsaw PSHE is a comprehensive and completely original Scheme of Work for the whole Primary School from Reception through to Year 6. It brings together PSHE Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning.
SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) development opportunities are mapped throughout. All of these pieces of learning are brought together to form a cohesive picture, helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people the world.
How does Jigsaw PSHE work?
Each class has a Jigsaw character with its distinctive colour and a chime bar to encouragement calmness, which you may already have heard about.
There are 6 Puzzles (half-term units of work) each with 6 Pieces (lessons)
Each Piece has two Learning Intentions: one is based on specific PSHE learning and one is based on emotional literacy and social skills. The new developments over our previous scheme mean that Jigsaw is relevant to children living in today’s world as it helps them understand and be equipped to cope with issues like body image, cyber and homophobic bullying, and internet safety.
Join in Jigsaw
We also use the Jigsaw materials and puzzle themes to run our own version of Jigsaw for families. It is called – Join in Jigsaw.
- All reception families are invited to – Join In Jigsaw. A 6 week block of sessions, exploring the 6 Jigsaw puzzle themes.
- The puzzle theme is different each week and a key question linked to the theme is the focus for the group discussion.
