Reading At Home

Share a Story with Sleepy Sheep

Our children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 can take home a ‘ Sleepy  Sheep Bag’. In the bag they will find: a selection of books to share at bedtime and a soothing ‘ sleepy sheep’ night light.

Reading in Key Stage 2

  • Each child will have their own reading book when reading for pleasure.
  • Each class has a book that is read aloud to them
  • Children who need support with reading have a book specifically targeted to their needs.
  • Each class has a  daily whole class reading session with texts chosen from our Reading Spine.

Reading Buddies

Our older children love being a Reading Buddy to our younger children!

Reading Spine

Each class in KS2 uses a selection of books for whole class reading. These books are chosen to ensure that children connect with a wide range of texts. These texts range from a  traditional style, to poetry and song or to very complex narratives.  These books have a Lexile count; this is a measure that enables teachers to choose a text based upon its word frequency, sentence length and how difficult it is to comprehend.
