Welcome to the Summer Term
Emperors and Empires
This term our main project will be Emperors and Empires. This project teaches children about the history and structure of ancient Rome and the Roman Empire, including a detailed exploration of the Romanisation of Britain.
We have a trip to Hooke Court booked for the 11th June 2026 where the children will be emersed into the time of the Romans. They will practice being Roman soldiers, cook food from that time, write using quills and make jewellery.
Art: We will be sketching and painting beautiful botanicals and making our very own mosaic tiles.
Science : We will be studying plant nutrition and reproduction and then moving on to light and shadows.
DT: We will be exploring what makes a good green house and having a go at making our own.
PE: Summer 1 – Athletics and Tennis Summer 2 – Cricket and Netball
RE: What do Christians mean when they talk about the Kingdom of God? and What symbols and stories help Jewish people remember their covenant with God?

SPELLING
We use Emile spelling which is a comprehensive, progressive and detailed scheme for teaching and learning spelling effectively.https://emile-education.com/
Maths
We use resources from White Rose Education. We will cover Place Value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and fractions. Times Tables Rockstars is a very important part of our learning in Year 3.

We will also spend focused time on maths fluency, which means quick and accurate recall of facts. Please support your child with any opportunities to build fluency and confidence. You can use online games such as these:

Writing– We use Jane Considine’s ‘The Write Stuff’ when we learn to write. We will write across a wide variety of genres including narrative, fiction and poetry.
